Village Vanguard

New York · US

The Village Vanguard is a basement jazz club at 178 Seventh Avenue South in Greenwich Village, operating in the same wedge-shaped room since 1935 and seating roughly 120. Widely regarded as the most storied jazz room in New York, it has been the recording site of landmark live albums by John Coltrane, Bill Evans, and Sonny Rollins, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (descended from the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra) has held its Monday-night residency since 1966.
