For 33 years Douglas Corner Cafe on Eighth Avenue South was one of Nashville's key songwriter listening rooms, opened in 1987 by engineer Mervin Louque and known for hosting future stars early in their careers before closing permanently in 2020. The name continues as Douglas Corner Country Place, an appointment-only writer's-round space on Hillenglade Drive about 15 minutes from downtown.
