WAWL is the radio station of Chattanooga State Community College, established on campus in 1980 and located in the Media Technology Center. Once a Top 40 outlet, it has evolved into an alternative station whose programming spans reggae, jazz, metal, punk, hip-hop, R&B, New Age and local music. It bills itself as an open venue for introducing new songs and local artists and serves as an incubator for radio talent.
