Stone Tapes is an experimental imprint, studio, and collective founded in 2022 by guitarist/producer Yonatan Gat (of Monotonix), operating as a spin-off of Joyful Noise Recordings' Artist-in-Residence program. Gat describes it as a space where radical experimental musicians and radical traditional musicians collaborate, releasing boundary-crossing work that blends punk, psychedelia, free jazz, improvisation, and global/traditional music. Releases include the Medicine Singers' debut, Gat's American Quartet, and records from Guinean guitar legend Mamady Kouyaté and reunited punk band Monotonix. Based between New York City and Indianapolis, with distribution tied to the Secretly/Joyful Noise orbit.
