Staalplaat is a long-running experimental/sound-art organization and label founded in 1982 by Geert-Jan Hobijn, originally Dutch (Amsterdam) and later operating between Amsterdam and Berlin. It is a touchstone of industrial, noise, ambient and sound-art culture, releasing across vinyl, CD and cassette and spawning many sublabels (Mort Aux Vaches, Microwave, Korm Plastics-adjacent series, Staaltape, etc.). Landmark artists include Muslimgauze, Edwin van der Heide and a deep catalog of experimental sound work; the label remains active via its store and Bandcamp.
