Righteous Babe Records is an independent folk label founded by singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco in her hometown of Buffalo, New York, around 1990 to self-release her own music outside the major-label system. Built on an explicitly anti-corporate, DIY ethos and a strong streak of social activism, it grew from DiFranco selling cassettes out of her car into a self-distributing indie label. Beyond DiFranco's own catalog, it has released a roster of folk and singer-songwriter artists.
