Opal Tapes is a UK experimental electronic label founded in 2012 by Stephen Bishop, who also records as Basic House. It started in the small town of Redcar in northeast England and later operated out of Newcastle. Rooted in Bishop's DIY punk/noise background, the label trades in degraded, abstracted forms of house, techno and ambient — lo-fi, cassette-and-vinyl-driven leftfield dance music — with releases from artists like Basic House, Skopos, Night Gestalt, Coralin and others. Bandcamp serves as its primary home and store.
