Independent Project Records (IPR) is a fiercely artisanal independent label founded in 1980 by musician and letterpress artist Bruce Licher, now based in Bishop, California after stints in Los Angeles and Sedona, Arizona. The label is renowned for treating each release as a piece of fine art, wrapping post-punk, post-psychedelic and experimental indie rock in instantly recognizable hand-printed letterpress packaging that twice earned Licher Grammy nominations for album design. Its catalog includes Savage Republic, Scenic, For Against, Red Temple Spirits and Camper Van Beethoven, with related work for R.E.M., Stereolab and David J. Reactivated in 2020 in collaboration with Jeffrey Clark, the label remains active.
