Gnar Tapes (a.k.a. Gnar Tapes & Shit) is an independent label founded in 2008 by Erik Gage at age 18 in Portland, Oregon, later associated with Los Angeles. It began as a cassette-only outlet for the city's lo-fi, garage, and slacker-pop scene and expanded worldwide across cassette, vinyl, CD, and digital. The roster has a scuzzy, irreverent DIY spirit, anchored by White Fang, The Memories, Free Weed, Unkle Funkle, and The Stoners, plus international acts. It remains active, though its main website is currently down for maintenance.
