Extreme Records
Melbourne · Australia · AU
Extreme Records is an Australian experimental and avant-garde label, incorporated in 1985 as an underground cassette imprint and taken over by Roger Richards in 1987. Based in Melbourne (with US distribution out of Atlanta), it releases genre-defying work spanning electronic, ambient, musique concrète, free jazz, noise, soundtrack and world music, and is internationally known for releases by Merzbow (including the 50-CD Merzbox), Muslimgauze, and Australian acts like Ollie Olsen and Orchestra of Skin and Bone. After distribution troubles caused it to go quiet in 2003, the label re-emerged in 2006 with a renewed focus on local Australian artists.
