Beggars Banquet grew out of a chain of West London record shops and launched as a label in 1977 on the DIY energy of punk, going on to release Gary Numan and Tubeway Army, Bauhaus, The Cult, The Fall and The National. It stopped signing new acts in 2008 and now operates as the catalogue and reissue arm of the wider Beggars Group.
