Amphetamine Reptile Records (AmRep) is the influential noise-rock label founded in 1986 by ex-Marine Tom Hazelmyer, originally in Washington state and long synonymous with Minneapolis, Minnesota. In its late-'80s/'90s heyday it defined American noise rock and helped launch Helmet (whose debut Strap It On sold tens of thousands), while releasing Cows, Chokebore, Servotron, Helios Creed, and records tied to the Melvins and Hazelmyer's own Halo of Flies. The label is prized for its limited-edition vinyl and Hazelmyer's hand-carved linocut artwork, and was the subject of the 2014 documentary The Color of Noise. Largely wound down as a full-time operation, it now runs as an outlet for limited reissues and special editions.
