1965 Records is a London-based independent label founded around 2005-06 by James Endeacott, the former Rough Trade A&R man who signed The Libertines and helped bring The Strokes to the UK; he named it after his birth year and runs it from a small Soho office, now under the PIAS Group after originally launching via Sony BMG/Columbia. Known for an eclectic, taste-driven approach spanning indie rock, soul, synth-pop, country and glam (often via vinyl-only singles), it scored an early number-one album with The View's Hats Off to the Buskers. Its roster has included The View, Nadine Shah, Fat White Family (as The Metros), The Draytones, Toddla T, Coves and Man & the Echo.
