New Zealand's public media funding agency, whose music team pays for the recording and promotion of singles, multi-song projects and video by New Zealand artists. Funding runs in dated rounds through an online portal — New Music Single, New Music Project, Waiata Takitahi and the Pasifika, Pan-Asian and Kids streams — and it also distributes new songs to media in Aotearoa and Australia through NewTracks, a monthly online compilation.

Depending on the type of music funding you are applying for, you will need to check you can reach the entry threshold criteria. We fund songs and projects that reflect Aotearoa and have the potential to reach significant broadcast and online audiences.

Current and upcoming deadlines — New Music Single: applications open Thu 30 July 2026 9:00 a.m., close Thu 13 August 2026 4:00 p.m., decisions due Thu 10 September 2026. New Music Project: opens Thu 20 August 2026, closes Thu 10 September 2026 4:00 p.m., decisions due Mon 2 November 2026. Waiata Takitahi: opens Thu 15 October 2026 9:00 a.m., closes Thu 5 November 2026 4:00 p.m., decisions due Fri 4 December 2026. You need to register with our online application system to apply for funding. We only consider applications submitted online. All material submitted to NZ On Air is covered by the Official Information Act.
