TURN is a Japanese language music criticism site out of Tokyo, running under the line 'be liberal, be innovative' since 2016. The bulk of it is album reviews and long interviews, and the writers move freely between Japanese underground acts and overseas ones: recent pieces cover the Kyoto four piece sakimori, rapper VOLOJZA, VIDEOTAPEMUSIC, Le Makeup and 冬にわかれて alongside Daphni, Anjimile, RAYE and Broken Social Scene. Long running columns like 未来は懐かしい (now past volume 70) dig into reissues and forgotten records, and TURN TV puts video features on top of the writing. It is reader funded, with a contribution widget on every page rather than banner ads. The contact page invites pitches directly, listing 記事掲載 (getting written about) as one of the reasons to email them.
